Socks, Socks and more Socks
Socks, Socks and more Socks

Creative Corner is the local Hot Sox Spot for a fun Knit Out Side the Box contest sponsored by XRX, SWTC, Mountain Colors, Cherry Tree Hill and others. There will be prizes and lots of fun. It is being officially announced at Stitches West. We will have more details in our newsletter and at the shop.
Another fun sock program is the Socks Wars III that kicks off on May 9th. We will have a sign up link in our next news letter. If you are brave enough sign up to do battle you will be emailed a top secret assassination dossier. This contains the target and exclusive, never-been-published before knitting pattern with which to assassinate your target. More details coming in the newsletter.
Our Sock Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at the shop 7pm to 9 pm. Currently we are working on patterns from More Sensational Socks and covering some new techniques. You don’t have to do the pattern of the month, just come and knit socks with us and have fun.
If you aren’t receiving the Creative Corner Newsletters stop in the shop or e-mail us to sign up. When your name is added you will receive a conformation letter. Watch for it and follow the instructions to be sure your name is added.
All of us at Creative Corner look forward to seeing you and joining in the fun. 332 Fifth Street. West Des Moines, IA 50265 515-255-7262/800-277-8427

Creative Corner Newsletter March 2008 |
 |
Are you ready to “Think Outside the Sox”? We have become a “Sox Hot Spot”! We hope you’ll join us in making 2008 the next year of the Sox.
We have teamed up with several yarn companies and Knitters Magazine to have a big sock contest. Knitters (XRX) will be publishing a new sock book. They and yarn companies have joined to offer prizes to knitters and crocheters who develop and create their own original socks. Prizes are great, but how exciting and fun it would be to have your pattern published in the new book!
We are loaded with sock yarn to inspire you and get your creative juices flowing! We have lots of Barefoot yarn from Mountain Colors. It is hand dyed and works really well in patterns. Tofutsies by Southwest Trading is in stock too. Also in on the contest is Cherry Tree. We have their variegated yarns as well as some coordinating solid colors. Use both together or just your favorite. Get your thinking cap on and your needles moving.
These three companies are directly involved with the contest. The yarn companies are offering their own prizes if you win using their yarns. We also have Sockotta by Plymouth, Clown by Swedish Yarns and lots of Opal. These yarns make great socks too and adapt well to any pattern you try to create.
Now is the time to sign up for Sock Wars 111. If you haven’t heard of Sock Wars, it is the “Original and bloodiest death by knitting tournament” Sign up now and you will receive your “assassination dossier” May 9, 2008. This file contains the name of your target and a never before published pattern with which to “assassinate” them. To kill your target you must knit socks in the given pattern and send them to your target -----before the person with your name sends you a pair of socks and kills you! If this sounds good to you, sign up now. You can go to the web page of South West Trading Company—www.soysilk.com--.
Good Luck to our sock knitters in both contests!
Continuing on the sock theme, Mountain Colors will ship the trunk show March 26. To be certain it has arrived and is on display, April 1st seems to be reasonable. It will be with us until April 15th. This should give everyone a chance to check them out.
Don’t forget the Sock Club. It meets here at the store on the 2nd Tuesday of the month 7-9 PM It is not necessary to work on the club sock if you don’t choose to, you may work on another sock.
Our basic knitting and crochet classes continue on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month both at 10AM-noon and 7-9 PM Join us!

Have you tried a kneezel They are great. They will hold your patterns where you can see them and have your hands free. They work with knitting patterns, stitching charts, even pictures of your grand kids for inspiration. (The picture is courtesy of Nancy'sd Knit Knacks and may not be copied)
